The Confederation of Paper Industries which has launched PaperWorks - a multimedia schools resource from the UK Paper Industry.

The development of PaperWorks is a timely revision of industry-based education material for schools. It provides teachers with a range of curriculum-linked learning resources, which fit with modern classroom teaching techniques and facilities, and supports the industry's aim to counter some of the common misconceptions of what has become one of the most sustainable and forward-thinking industries in the UK.

The PaperWorks website features down-loadable whiteboard presentations, teaching notes and worksheets. The Study Area also includes paper production and recycling projects, interesting facts and figures on the industry and some useful background information. Through the use of videos, PaperWorks helps students to connect curriculum theory to the real world, whilst supporting and promoting industry's core messages on recycling and sustainability.

PaperWorks consists of four packs:

• Art and Design: 5 to 7 years
• Science and Technology: 7 to 11 years
• Geography Studies: 11 to 18 years
• Business Studies: 14 to18 years

Through Art & Design, and Science & Technology at Primary level, PaperWorks is designed to engage pupils in a fun exploration of paper. It helps pupils to learn all about paper; its versatility, how it is used every day and introduces the importance of recycling.

At Secondary level, PaperWorks supports elements of the curriculum for GCSE and A Level for Business Studies and at KS3 and GCSE for Geography. In particular, it helps students to understand how the UK Paper Industry is a modern and sustainable industry with strong environmental credentials.
